O Mein Papa

Because I had committed to volunteer at FredRock I didn't get to see Dad on Father's Day. When I got to work this morning my boss, a STU grad, showed me this month's STU alumni magazine which had a profile of Dad.

We share alot of very obvious similarities both physical and otherwise but also have some personality differences that can probably be attributed to mom's inheritance. One thing we do share, and one that isn't so easily explained by genes, is our love and pride for our home. Within that STU article Dad sums it up very well: "I love New Brunswick. I love our culture and the history of this place and I wanted to share it.” Minus the sharing part, that pretty much nails my sentiments. I hope to someday do half as much as he has done to share and nurture our culture.

Thanks Pop, Happy Father's Day.

Si

hmmm - i was surprised to hear that you are in the camp with those who prefer not sharing Fredericton. there is only one unfortunate thing can i regretfully say about this town i also love dearly. it is that there are some folks who, at times, choose not to share its beauty with "outsiders". some newcomers are not able keep the flame of optimism lit. i am thinking of a family doctor friend of mine who left for these reasons - yes i said doctor. frankly, it can be a source of sadness. there is much to be said for the innate multiplicity of love, of which sharing is apart, and the fearlessness of love's easy inclusive expansion... so do all things with love - life is about nothing else. meaning no personal offence, In Joy your blog. cheers. t.

Thanks for the feedback; I appreciate it. I will clarify though, the 'minus the sharing' line was in reference to my track record compared to my father's. I will gladly share Fredericton's history, culture, and beauty with anyone willing to listen. but he has made it his life's work while it's just a hobby for me. Someday I hope to match his efforts but it's an uphill battle. But I totally agree that outsiders should be embraced. I absolutely hate hearing Fredericton's reputation for being so insular. Mainly because I probably never see it from the inside looking out.
Thanks again for the feedback.
