The Blarney Stone

This picture shows the actual process one goes through in Kissing the Blarney Stone. It seems obvious to me that the legend of the luck brought on by this encounter is a classic inter-national practical joke. "Let's see how many foreigners we can get to roll around on the floor transferring lip fungus?". If there was a grain of truth to the legend it is likely that some drunken Irishman passed out on this spot and kissed the wall waiting for his mates to find him. When they did he considered that good luck and the legend was born.

The real significance of the Blarney Stone is that it is the implement that it feels like was used to repeatedly beat your head the morning after St. Patrick's Day.

I have to disagree with you.....I have my own theory based on a little piece of the "Blarney Stone" brought to an Irish pub and displayed only on Saint Patrick's day ......and the legend has it if you kiss it you will have incredible luck that night...... And weather it was the stone or not.....it was certainly the luck of the Irish! (Even if the stone is actually a local prop it will still always have a sentimental place in my heart....you truly missed out!

As I recall, legend has it the 'Beloved Blarney Stone' posesses the power to bestow upon those who kissed it the gift of gab. I don't believe there is anything about luck involved...that is of course if that new found gift gets you into some gals pants that night.

Kissing the stone is supposed to bring the kisser the gift of persuasive eloquence. The origins of its magical properties aren't clear, but one legend says that an old woman cast a spell on the stone to reward a king who had saved her from drowning. Kissing the stone while under the spell gave the king the ability to speak sweetly and convincingly......perhaps it did work for me......perhaps it was all the green beer who knows but the theory of the blarney stone makes for a better story!
