Thicker Than Water

So I told you that Steve "MVP" Nash and Dirk "highball" Nowitski were buddies of mine. Some of you believed but others scoffed at the idea. Well for those of you counted among the latter group I have a little something for you; it's a...um, I'll just let the video do the talking.

What else can I say? I bought that guitar at a pawn shop in Esquimalt and gave it to Dirk, or Dork as I call him, for his 25nd birthday. It looks like a ukalale in the big lug's hands. Ahh, I miss that crazy kraut. As for Stevie, well, we still talk but he's been a little cold to me since I stood up his sister that one time. This too will pass and we are all planning on hooking up when I am in Texas in the fall. Anywho, this song really takes me back. Good times boys, good times.

And no I don't have any footage of Alanis and I but most of that relationship is not suitable for public viewing anyhow.

Mother

This is one of the first best pictures of the earth from space. It was taken on an Apollo mission as the spacecraft rounded the dark side of the moon. The image captivated the globe and changed, quite literally, how the world saw itself. It was featured in a movie I saw today called An Inconvenient Truth.

Although the movie seems alot like an early and extended presidential campaign ad from Al Gore it is an eye-opening documentary on global warming. It is actually billed as a global warning and it delivers on that. Gore traces the roots of the study of global warming and follows the story right up to the weather anomolies that appear to be related. The numbers are scary and I would urge you to check it out. Also you can got most of the info that it outlines by clicking here.

The movie is timely a)because we are at a fairly crititcal point in the future of the planet and b)because Canada has recently become the third advanced country to back out of the Kyoto Protocol after the U.S. and Australia. The government has yet to outline their alternate plans to reduce greenhouse gases. That's not a good sign; I thought that when I heard it earlier this week and after seeing this movie I know that there isn't a whole lot of time to dally.

Pace out

Loving Cup

Booo...

Having said that this is the coolest picture I have seen today. That is the coolest trophy in sports (with apologies to my girl Caledonia) and I always love seeing those rich pricks happy as little kids...with foolish beards. If only the Habs could have beaten the Canes in the first round. The Cup is in Carolina; that just doesn't sound right.

You gotta love Commodore though...

"Oglethorpe? I thought he was still in prison???"

Like the Bruins fans say, there's always next year.

Which reminds me of a great joke - Why did they cancel the Boston Tea Party? Because Montreal has all the Cups! Hiyo!

Wishlist

I can't remember exactly when but at some point in the not too distant past Normy began using lists in all conversations. For example, for that last sentence he would have said something like this; "I can't remember exactly when but it was A)a couple of years ago or B)more then a couple of years ago that I started making lists". This bugs me far less then it amuses me so I don't really want him to stop doing it but it is a curious quirk worth noting. And I don't think I ever would have noticed it had the regular progression of a list continued but at some point in the evolution of this quirk Normy stumbled and now he has a brain block that won't let him list past B. When there are only two options I have always found the conjunction "or" to be particularly useful.

Plus I think A and B are lost without C. Maybe I'll get him to start with numbered lists because it seems to me that 1 and 2 can do without 3; although I'm always open to suggestion. Depending on who you ask 3 is either A)a crowd B)the magic number C)the number of goals my Oil will need to win the Cup tonight or D)all of the above.

We love lists!

Rock You Like A Hurricane

So get this, the Edmonton Oilers played the Carolina Hurricanes last night in game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals. Meanwhile outside hurricane Alberto blew through North Carolina. So the Oilers from Alberta are playing the Hurricanes of Carolina while hurricane Alberto ripped through town. They won...no shit. It would be awful fun to be in Edmonton on Saturday night; that place will be going insane.

In related news Hurricane Bardsley gets blown ashore tomorrow just in time for Wheaton's birthday. My prediction: Randell will stay up later and drink more Alpine but the Beast will snore louder. Advantage Wheat.

With A Little Help From My Friends

Over the past couple of years I have become involved in the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life. This event is the cancer society's major fundraising event for the year. All of the proceeds of this event go to fund research into cancer prevention and finding a cure. It also goes support programs for those diagnosed with cancer and their families.

This year I was involved with the team recruitment committee and helped myself out by committing the rugby club to enter a team, just as we did last year. I'm proud to say that (up to this point) we have raised just over $2000 towards this great cause. One of the new aspects of the event this year is that the cancer society has gone hi-tech and now offers people the ability to make donations to a particular team online. So, while I'm not sure who might be visiting this here site (am I talking to myself?) I feel I would be remiss if I didn't at least point you in the direction to make a donation to this cause. So if you are interested please click here. All you need to do is enter my name and the next steps will be easy to follow. My guinea pig told me so (thanks mom!). Last year the rugby club was the second highest fundraising team in the city. Hopefully we will get close to that again.

I'm off to the event now and I'm excited. Last year I missed it because I was off playing rugby. The weather is not cooperating but there will still be lots of people there and some good entertainment, including Casey Leblanc. I'm going to try and hook her up with the little bro.

Thanks

Sashy

Rock and Roll is my Guitar

Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals goes tonight...

I have to say that I am quite interested in this series. Most people who grew up when I did have a natural like of the Oilers because they were the team that made us like hockey. The team is completely different but they are a great team to watch again. Plus, after being in Edmonton last month I have an idea how much fun the folks out there are having with this and you have to appreciate that too.

To top it all off (or to back it all up) they have one of the best voice mascots in sports. Paul Brown has a radio show in Edmonton and he has exclusive interview rights with Ryan Smyth's mullet. Check out what he has to say here.
As an interesting sidebar, the mullet sounds exactly like Terry from Fubar which is a crazy coincidence because him and Smytty could be brothers.
